Foam Products
Polyethylene Foams
These are closed-cell elastomers. Areas of application are extensive: they are suitable for insulation applications such as thermal insulation, sealing, muffling amongst others. At DFC, we offer physically and chemically cross-linked, as well as non cross-linked PE foams, covering a great number of applications. Especially physically cross-linked foams are suitable for the NVH (Noise Vibration Heat) applications in the automotive interior, due to their low fogging- and emission value.
We offer:
- Flame-resistant foams (FMVSS302, UL94, DIN4102, EN 13501-1)
- Low-emission and low-odor foams (VDA 270, VDA 276, VDA 278)
- Electrically conducive, static dissipative and antistatic foams (ESD safe).
PU Foams
DFC processes open-cell polyurethane soft foams which are ester- and ether-based. They are suitable for many areas of applications including dust seal, thermal insulation, damping, shock absorbance, vibration isolation, padding, as well as transport protection.
We offer:
PUR foams with the following features:
- Flame-resistant foams (FMVSS302, UL94, DIN4102, EN 13501-1)
- Low-emission and low-odor foams (VDA 270, VDA 276, VDA 278)
- Mostly closed cell types for special seal applications
- Electrically conducive and antistatic foams (ESD safe)
- Composite foam made of recycled PUR foam scrap
Compound Foams
DFC’s compound ‘chip’ foams are made up of recycled polyethylene foam flakes which have great impact absorption and dampening properties. Compound foams are best suited for automotive seating, soundproofing, headlining and packaging applications.
EPE
DFC’s expanded polyethylene (EPE) is a low density non-toxic closed-cell foam that is flame retardant. It has good resistance to weathering, diluted chemicals, solvents and some oils. Its semi-rigid and high impact absorption properties make it ideal for gasketing and packaging applications.
Rubber Products
Cellular Rubber
This is blown from natural or synthetic rubber. It has mainly closed cell however there are semi-closed cell derivatives it is generally slip-resistant. Amongst others, EPDM, NBR, CR, NR, SBR or EVM are generally the polymer basis. Cellular rubber is the preferred choice when considering price in comparison to foam rubber and natural rubber. Due to its high elasticity and its resilient force, cellular rubber is especially suitable for seals with frequent compression, strain and relieve of strain. All DFC cellular rubbers are tempered (accelerated aging) before processing, to prevent natural shrinking. We offer cellular rubber that meets the standards of all OEMs.
Including:
- Flame-resistant foams (FMVSS302, UL94, DIN4102, EN 13501-1, EN45545)
- Oil- and fuel-resistant foams (CR, NBR)
- Cellular rubber with semi-closed cells for special seals
DFC processes blocks and roles into stampings, sealing tapes, blanks and much more, with or without an extensive range of self-adhesive products.
EPDM
DFC’s automotive-grade ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) is a synthetic closed-cell rubber that has good resistance to weathering, diluted chemicals, solvents and oils. EPDM is both waterproof and heat, steam and ozone robust, as well as, an electric insulator. EPDM is effective in sound dampening and dust sealing applications.
CR/Neoprene
CR/Neoprene is a synthetic polymerised closed-cell sponge rubber that has exceptional chemical, solvent and oil stability. DFC’s neoprene is both strong and durable with optimal resistance to hot and cold temperature, ageing, weathering, UV and ozone. This material recovers well under compression due to its good flexibility and durability properties. Neoprene is flame-retardant and has a low water absorption and degradation rate. These properties make neoprene ideal for automotive applications.
Felt and Adhesive Products
Felts
Peace and quiet in the vehicle is an important feature of high-quality car models. OEM’s use various microfiber non woven products for pleasant noise-optimized travel. At DFC, we convert a wide range of these non woven felts into components, to meet specific acoustic target curves to reduce road noise, wind noise, engine noise, etc. These felts are polyester based and meet most OEM burn rate specifications, and can withstand high temperatures. A scrim can also be applied to the felt to improve absorption performance, and assist with hydrophobic properties.
Components can be die cut to customer specifications, and sonic welded to many substrates, eliminating the need for expensive adhesives.
Typical applications include:
- Wheel House Liners
- A,B,C and D Pillars
- Trunk Trim Insulators
- Door Panel Insulators
- Head Liner
- Engine Covers
Laminations
DynaFoam offers an array of laminations which consist of the products we supply. These are either mechanically or chemically bonded and used extensively in the Automotive Industry.
Adhesives
DFC has an adhesive partner in the EU, ATP which specializes in developing and manufacturing client-specific adhesive products. With an established, worldwide distribution network and modern manufacturing capability, ATP supplies a variety of industry segments including automotive, transportation, foam, graphic, electronics, plastics, specialist labels, medical, building and construction. DFC stocks a selected range of their adhesives and supplies the majority of converters in South Africa with customized products that compliment their product quality.
